    What a wonderful Advent calendar.

Just one quibble — on No. 2, the caption says this is a shepherd in southern Israel. Actually, an Arab shepherdess — note the embroidered dress, and the traditional need for a woman to cover her face, which men don’t need to do.

Alas, you don’t see these embroidered dresses much anymore — no one has time to make them. The design on this one is a fairly modern flower design; it used to be that you could tell what region the dress came from by the traditional embroidery themes, including specifically Christian patterns from towns like Ramallah or Bethlehem.

Best wishes for a holy, happy, Advent season.

Alifa: Thanks for the wonderful comment. I’ll make a change when I update the calendar.
